Recipients of the Doug Saxton Memorial Scholarship
On April 11, 2012, the Tualatin Valley Community Band Board of Directors announced the winners of the 2012 Doug Saxton Memorial Scholarship. This year, one outstanding high school senior was chosen by the scholarship committee.
Michelle Wiseman
Alto Sax
Tigard High School
Michelle plays alto saxophone with the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra, the Tigard High School marching band, jazz ensemble, wind ensemble, and the TVCB. She has played in the pit orchestra for musicals with the Tin Pan Alley Theatre Company as well as at Tigard High. She has competed in the District Solo/Ensemble competitions for several years, and the PAC Jazz Festival and Band Festival. Michelle plans to major in Psychology and Jazz Studies at Portland State University, then continue on to a Master's Degree in Music Therapy, and find a career n music therapy.
